Frequently Asked Questions...

How to make a custom guitar?

I want to make custom electric guitars, but I really don't know how. I know guitar anatomy and everything, but I don't know where to by parts cheap and get good deals. I'm hoping to sell completed guitars at a profit.

Answer:

Guitarmastergod,

I can give you some tips about builds and parts.

First advice: buy fantastic pickups - they matter a lot (recommendations humbucker: Duncan JB, single coil: fender custom shop texas specials) the GFS pickups from guitarfetish are quite good and cheap too.

All the little electronic parts can be had either from stew mac or from guitarfetish. The bodies and necks can be had from warmoth or from carvin. The hardware (bridges, nuts, ...) can be had from the same places as the electronics.

I'd suggest aiming for the mid-high end guitar market instead of the super low end like $500-1000. You really won't be able to sell a custom guitar for $100 but fender can by making it overseas. Market your guitar to people looking to get a USA made axe for the price of a nice Korean axe.

Good luck making some awesome axes!
